Layup timing scripts in NBA 2K27: why they miss and which ones are usable

Layup timing is the weakest feature on every NBA 2K27 Cronus Zen script we tested. Here is why — animation variety, contact, gather speed — which scripts handle it best, and when to turn layup timing off entirely.

Why jump shots work and layups do not

A script greens a jump shot by holding the button for a duration matched to your jumper's release. It works because your jumper is a fixed thing: you picked it, it plays the same way every time (allowing for fatigue and contest), and the script was tuned to it.

Layups are chosen by the game. Drive from the wing at speed with a defender trailing and you get one animation; drive baseline with a defender in front and you get a reverse; get bumped and you get a contact finish; jump early and you get a floater. The game decides which animation plays after you press the button, based on the situation in that frame. Each animation has its own release point. The script pressed the button before it knew what was coming.

Vendors handle this by tuning for the most common animation on a straight drive and hoping. It is a reasonable approach. It cannot be more than a partial fix.

What we measured

Same build (6'8" wing, standard layup package), Xbox Series X wired, Shot Timing set to Shots and Layups, 50 attempts per type.

ScriptUncontested straight driveEuro stepContact layupReverseFloater
yew2K38 / 5034 / 5022 / 5019 / 5015 / 50
Dynasty37 / 5035 / 5021 / 5020 / 5014 / 50
Green35 / 5030 / 5019 / 5017 / 5012 / 50
Hoops33 / 5028 / 5017 / 5015 / 5011 / 50
No script, Real Player %Rating-based, ~31 / 50 across all types

Two things. First, the drop from a clean drive to anything else is large on every script. Second, the no-script Real Player % line: on contact, reverses and floaters, letting the game resolve on ratings was better than any script's timing.

Why the good ones are better

yew2K and Dynasty both expose a layup offset separate from the jump-shot offset, and both have some form of layup-type detection — they watch the left stick and sprint state when you press and choose between two or three internal offsets. It helps on euros and clean drives. It does nothing for the game's contact decision, which happens after the press.

Green and Hoops use a single layup offset. Fine on the standard finger roll, worse everywhere else.

The recommendation

For most players: Shot Timing → Shots Only. Jump shots are timed (by the script), layups resolve on attributes and badges. You lose the layup-timing boost on clean drives — 38/50 versus about 31/50 on yew2K — and gain reliability everywhere else. Total points scored per drive went up for two of our three testers with this setting, because they stopped missing contact layups they would have made on ratings.

For slashers who mostly drive clean lanes in Park: leave Shots and Layups on with yew2K or Dynasty, tune the layup offset separately with a drill, and accept that contact finishes will be worse. Big men → covers the centre's version of this problem, which is harder still because post finishes add more animations.

For everyone: do not judge a script by its layups. It is the one thing nobody does well, for reasons that are structural.

Tuning the layup offset, if you keep it on

  1. Freestyle, no defender. Drive straight from the wing at full sprint, finish with the standard layup. Twenty attempts. Log early/late.
  2. Adjust the layup offset (yew2K: regenerate with the layup option; Dynasty and Green: the layup value in the menu) in 5 ms steps until balanced.
  3. Repeat with a euro. If your script has a separate euro value, tune it. If not, pick the offset that balances the two.
  4. Do not tune against contact, reverses or floaters. You will chase noise.

The usual caveat

Layup timing that mostly misses is still an unauthorized third-party tool under 2K's Code of Conduct, with penalties up to a permanent account or device ban. Ban risk →

FAQ

Do scripts time layups in NBA 2K27?
Most claim to. In practice they work on a subset of layup animations — the standard finger roll and euro from a straight drive — and miss on contact layups, reverses, floaters and off-foot finishes because those animations have different release points.
Which script is best for layups?
yew2K and Dynasty were the most usable in our testing, at roughly 75% on uncontested drives. Nothing was reliable on contested or unusual layups.
Should I turn layup timing off?
If you drive into contact a lot, yes. Set Shot Timing to 'Shots Only' and let the game resolve layups on attributes. The script then only times jump shots, which it does well.
Why is layup timing harder than jump shot timing?
A jump shot is one animation you chose. A layup is one of dozens the game picks based on angle, defender, speed and badges, each with its own release point. The script cannot know which one is about to play.
Does the Real Player % setting help?
Setting Shot Timing to Real Player % for layups removes timing entirely and resolves layups on ratings. That is the safest choice for players who do not want to manage layup timing.
