Cronus Zen slot management for NBA 2K27: running multiple scripts and builds on eight slots
The Cronus Zen has eight slots. Here is how to allocate them across builds, scripts and a fallback, how to label them so the OLED makes sense, and what to do when a generator script wants a slot per build.
Slots, briefly
The Cronus Zen stores up to eight compiled scripts. You cycle through them with the buttons on the device and the OLED shows the active slot's name. One slot runs at a time. Nothing in slot 2 affects the game while slot 1 is selected. This is the single most misunderstood fact among new users; see item 10 in our troubleshooting order.
You program slots from Zen Studio Live (browser, WebUSB) with the Zen on its PROG port. Live shows what is in each slot and lets you name them.
The multi-build problem
Per-build tuning means one offset per MyPlayer. Three ways scripts handle it, and each has a slot cost:
| Script type | Builds per slot | Slot cost for 3 builds |
|---|---|---|
| Generator (yew2K) | 1 | 3 slots |
| Menu with saved profiles (Dynasty, Green) | 1 file, re-enter values per build or use profile save | 1 slot, plus discipline |
| Build-select (Prime) | 3 | 1 slot |
| Preset (Hoops) | n/a, no tuning | 1 slot |
Generator scripts are the fastest to tune and the most slot-hungry. If you run four builds on yew2K, that is half the device. Prime's Select Build stores three; the fourth is still a problem. Generator vs menu →
A layout that works
This is ours after a month of switching scripts for testing. Yours will be simpler.
- Slot 1 — main build, main script. Whatever you play most. A power cycle lands on slot 1, so this is your default.
- Slot 2 — second build. Same script, different generated file, or the same menu script with the second build's values if you are disciplined about changing them.
- Slot 3 — third build, same idea.
- Slot 4 — fallback. The previous version of slot 1's script. When a vendor ships a post-patch update, program it to slot 1 and leave the old one here until you have verified the new one in drills. Neither 2K27 patch so far has produced a broken vendor file, but 2K26 had several, and this slot is why you can still play when it happens. Patch tracker →
- Slot 5 — test. A script you are evaluating, or a free GamePack for a different game.
- Slots 6–8 — free. Empty slots are fine. Full slots make programming a ninth file fail silently.
Naming
Zen Studio Live lets you name slots. Use it. yew2K 6-8 wing v1.3 tells you the script, build and patch version on the OLED. Script2 does not. When you re-tune after a patch, update the name. This is the cheapest documentation you will ever write.
For menu scripts, the OLED also shows the current mode and profile; the slot name should carry the build so the two together tell you everything.
Switching mid-session
Cycling slots takes a few seconds and the script restarts in its default mode. If you switch builds between Rec games, you will re-select the shooting mode and profile every time on a menu script. Generated files default on, which is one reason they feel faster in practice.
Do not switch slots during a game. The restart drops inputs for a moment.
What about GamePacks?
Cronus's free GamePacks live in slots like anything else. If you play another game with a GamePack, give it a slot and switch. There is no interaction with your 2K script while it is not selected. Free vs paid →
Keeping the files
The Zen holds the compiled scripts, but keep the source .gpc files somewhere too, named the same way as the slots, with the date and patch version. When a vendor's update breaks something and their Discord says "roll back," you want the old file in a folder, not a memory of having downloaded it once.
For generator scripts, keep the form inputs (height, release speed, latency) with the file. Regenerating is easier than remembering.
The usual caveat
Organizing eight slots does not change what is in them: unauthorized third-party tools under 2K's Code of Conduct, with penalties up to a permanent account or device ban. Ban risk →
FAQ
- How many slots does a Cronus Zen have?
- Eight. Each holds one compiled .gpc. Only the selected slot runs; slots do not stack.
- Can I run two scripts at once?
- No. One slot is active at a time. A stick-response GamePack in slot 1 does nothing while slot 2 is selected.
- How do I handle three builds with a generator script?
- One generated file per build, one slot each. Name them by build in Zen Studio Live so the OLED shows which is which. Or use a build-select script (Prime) that stores three builds in one file.
- Should I keep a fallback slot?
- Yes. Keep the previous version of your main script in a slot until you have verified the new one after a patch. It saves you when an update ships broken.
- Do slot numbers matter?
- Only for muscle memory. Put your daily driver in slot 1 so a power cycle lands you there.
